As torrential rain pours continuously for the past month and typhoon Noru grazing the capital, resulting in jams and flooding in selected areas of Bangkok that is a hinderance to daily life. . But despite humans being major affected by this seasonal down pour in urban areas, the remaining wildlife that are among the urbanites are also affected. . For many of them reside next to streams, overgrown vegetation, public parks, or in small crevices under peoples homes are driven out due to floods caused by rainfall. . This has resulted in an increase of snakes encounters in homes. . “As of September this year [2022] we have already almost 30,000 reports of snake encounters through out Bangkok” said Pinyo Pukpinyo, a 52 year old Fire Fighter and expert snake wrangler. . “We expect the number to be close to 40,000 by the end of the year”. . Majority of the snakes that are reported are pythons, while venomous snakes such as cobras are uncommon but appear from time to time. . Because this years torrential rainfall has maintained water levels in various flooded areas in Bangkok, this has resulted in making snakes habitats unlivable, driving them enter peoples homes for refuge. . “Many of these snakes live in burrows underground or on top of trees, and while these snakes are able to swim, but for prolonged periods of time, they would seek shelter somewhere to weather out the flooding” said Pinyo. .
